I AM THE FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF EN AVANT BALLET
I began ballet classes aged just two. By the age of six I was chosen to take part in the Royal Opera House’s Chance to Dance program and began attending weekly ballet lessons under the direction of Royal Ballet dancers and teachers where I excelled in creative workshops and performance.
By age seven, I was a Royal Ballet School Junior Associate and quickly progressed into the Royal Ballet School itself. During my training, I performed extensively with the Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and English National Ballet. My first performance on a major stage was with The Royal Ballet in The Tales Of Beatrix Potter, choreographed by Sir Fredrick Ashton, in which I danced the role of a baby mouse aged just 9! I have also danced repertoire from various other Royal Ballet productions including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and La Bayadere. In 2012, I joined the National Theatre company alongside other Royal Ballet dancers to dance and act in Nicholas Hytner's production of Shakespeare's story Timon and Athens, with stage and acting legend Simon Russell Beale in the title role.
After suffering with a troublesome spinal injury which left me chair bound for many years at the height of my training at the Royal Ballet School, I found myself at rock bottom and decided to take a step back from my main stage career to focus on rehabilitation and recovery. It was during this time that I discovered how positive affirmations and expression were crucial to my recovery. I also came across Buddhist meditation and immersed myself in sports psychology. I overhauled my existing technical knowledge and retrained my body from scratch. I have to credit martial arts, weight lifting and meditation among the methods which help me overcome the physical and emotional trauma I experienced and help me rediscover a desire to live a full and joyful life. It all fell into place when I started to channel this passion and newfound knowledge into teaching others. I had found my purpose. More than just technique, I believe in helping others discover how healing classical ballet can be, even for complete beginners through the techniques I used to bring me back from the edge.
In 2011, I received my teacher training qualification from the Royal Ballet School and Royal Opera House and began teaching in London.
Since forming En Avant Ballet in 2015 I have been invited to share my wisdom and teach all over the world. I am often regarded as one of the 'go to' ballet teachers in London and worldwide, meaning that my client base has ranged from complete beginners to world renowned professional dancers, actors, singers and European Royal Family members.
Among my many career highs, in 2018 I was invited to be a Master In Residence of the Shangri-La Villingili resort in the Maldives and in 2019 was Artista En Casa of Uxua Casa Hotel and Spa in Bahia, Brazil. I have also dabbled in choreography and my most recent project Ballet Bahia will be launching in 2021, fusing the culture and skills of capoeira fighters from Trancoso in Brazil with traditional classical ballet themes and movements.
